I mention building a new game engine in this email sent in January 2015 to former boss as a proposal. Though, this engine would be quite different from the AI native game engine, still you get an idea.
The aspects mentioned in this email are unique to that proposed deal and situation. It’s not necessary that the kind of dynamics needed for that venture are also required for current AI venture. That proposal is not based on building an engine, but an option to explore whilst current venture is focused on building AI native game engine based on particular technical hypothesis derived from an abstraction.
I didn’t really give up on this startup idea only because I lost interest or it got difficult, as you can read in detailed essays I have written about my time navigating this period—> I had no money or savings at all, but a remote part time job to cover all my expenses which also used to take good portion of my day as that business was being “setup.” I was getting really good in writing at that time which made exploring fiction more interesting than apps, but also because this tech was limited by hardware and scope—> I was always more interested in augmented reality which had a wider scope, but it was also limited by hardware. It didn’t felt feasible to build a team to explore this sector at the cost of giving up on making movies at that time. The people I was working with or in touch with at that time were not tech or startup minded people—> so, it was pretty clear they were not on my frequency. The money I was getting from the part time job was messily, I knew I could pick up tech and coding whenever I wanted, but just like writing I really go deep into it and that was not the time or circumstances to close myself from the wide world of writing to like I said “box” myself into the world of apps because intellectual growth from writing was immense and business tech curiosity was being fulfilled by helping these companies. I always kept my side time for tech research to not lose track and it helped in writing as well. But you can not do both high level fiction writing and high level software development simultaneously—> I have tried therefore, I can tell.
The scope of AI native is quite wide to suit my sensibilities as it’s not an app, but an operating system, and I am no longer writing to make movies. So, it’s quite different—> worth my deep attention and time.
Just because I chose not to work with some people, doesn’t mean I gave up on that thing like some people make it out to be either. As evident.
In this email sent to an associate company which arranged a meeting with India’s power maintenance government company I propose using AI and other methods for analysing equipment health and maintenance. There were several other such projects where I provided input.
This was only one of the numerous occasions when I shared my inputs with these people and they shared them further, but I never heard back with an actual order or even relevant feedback to progress the case. Since, at that time I was exploring getting into venture investing, it seemed like a good idea to stay connected with them as it exposed me to a sector and set of problems that were not open through other connections.
I realised these people would never be able to adapt to a startups way of working and they were not technical as before this their company was called “Sixd marketing solutions” which they changed to “…engineering solutions” based on my recommendation, though the core operation style was not built on first principles of software engineering. Therefore, limited in scope for growth. Still, they were getting inquiries, some based on my association and it didn’t make sense to severe the connection even if sometimes I would have to downplay my own abilities to make them feel better or just to get out of something they were trying to make me indulge.
I would be posting emails in this thread with other companies I was associated during this time in diverse sectors so as to stay prepared to pivot based on getting surplus cash from concentrating on getting movies funded and made at that time.
